Your HVAC system is one of the busiest appliances in your home. You and your family greatly depend on it to keep indoor temperatures at a comfortable level, but have you ever wondered how exactly an HVAC system gets the job done? Our air conditioning repair experts at Connolly Heating and Air Conditioning guide you through the entire process in this blog.
Step 1 – The HVAC Gathers Warm Air
The process starts with your HVAC system sucking in the warm air that’s in the room. As the air enters the system, any dust or pollen suspended in the air is filtered out with a fine layer of mesh to minimize the risk of clogging the system. Part of our maintenance procedure involves cleaning the mesh on a regular basis to ensure peak efficiency.
Step 2 – The Air Is Cooled
Next, a special liquid called a refrigerant passes through an evaporator, converting it into a cold gas. This gas passes through a tube called an evaporator coil, which comes in contact with the warm air. An HVAC’s evaporator coil must be free of damage to prevent refrigerant from leaking out and causing even more problems, which is why HVAC companies always check the coil for any signs of damage.
Step 3 – Cool Air Goes Out
The air cooled by the evaporator coils is then pushed out of the HVAC system by a fan inside the unit. For better cooling performance, the unit also has a smaller series of fans and oscillators to help increase the airflow throughout the room.
Step 4 – The Cycle Repeats
After absorbing heat from the cool air, the refrigerant passes through a compressor, gets pressurized and is sent to another tube called the condenser coil. The high pressure there causes the refrigerant to heat up and turn back into a liquid before being sent back to the evaporator. Air conditioning replacement experts like Connolly Heating and Air Conditioning recommend calling a technician as soon as you notice a problem with the fans on the evaporator blowing to prevent issues related to overheating.
